Life comes and goes on a windy road wracked by standards and decisions. Schooling teaches you how to work with these things and how to act on the right decisions. The teachers work hard to instill a sense of what you would need to function in the workforce in this society and time. ACLC does just that by scheduling regular classes and many other options as well consisting of a close knit community that helped me get through middle school and high school.

Personal qualities, work habits, and attitudes reflect my ability to know when I am able to accomplish something. In my years at ACLC, even when all learners get bombarded with homework, I haven’t had many missing or late assignments. I would say I have over the years at the most about 35, because sometimes balancing social and school lives can be hard. On the contrary, I have had projects, like the physics roller coaster, that I have had to pass on social events for. On that one I skipped the freshman formal; suffice to say I heard a lot of. The road to college is a roller coaster in itself, juggling everything humans do and need on a daily basis while keeping up with school and home can be difficult, but in the long run I know what I want to do and how I will get there.

New Basics lists out the classes or subjects that teachers and students work through the four years of highschool to effectively learn and master. Throughout my high school career there have been the easier and harder subjects. Physical fitness and civics were never hard for me. My spot in the community had grown from being a seventh grade community member to a twelfth grade leadership learner in the community and i’ve played soccer since was five so the occasional mile was no problem. On the other hand I have struggled through my math requirements. I passed algebra 2 with a mediocre grade while acquiring an A or B in all of the other math classes, but in the recent one to two years I have been redeeming myself by taking the classes I almost failed over again. The current counselor at ACLC,Erin, set me up with an independent study program that I retook a semester of two of my classes with. The other subjects I studied throughout my high school career at ACLC have been easier and frankly nicer as I was able to keep my grade up in those without a bundle of stress holding me down.

Throughout life there are always times you have to use your Thinking and Reasoning Skills. While going to school at ACLC the teachers and environment put you in those learning situations on a regular basis. Some of these happen in class and other times all around campus. One of these classes is leadership. In leadership we vote on proposals from the community to change or have an event at school, organise the weekly CCC which is a whole school event, and talk about many other important ideas. Being a leadership learner, you have to either vote yay, no, or abstain. Occasionally I am indecisive in the time it takes for everyone else to vote on major events, but in that case I go with what I think would be best rather than what I as a person or senior would want. Though I would stay away from judgemental thinking when attending leadership in the first place because it would affect your thinking and reasoning to the point where you may be going against the flow of getting things done efficiently.

I believe my interpersonal abilities shine most when I am on the pitch. I’ve played soccer since I was four and I strive to keep playing any way I can. Recreational has usually been my thing but last year and this year I am going for two years of high school soccer. High School soccer isn’t much different from league accept for the fact that it is much more competitive. To be on these teams, you have to go to all of the practices, five days a week, and earn your place on the field as a one of the kind and team player. Soccer is a very team oriented sport. Even if one person on the field doesn’t play well with others there may be a problem, especially if they are a defender. The four main positions in this certain pastime are goalie, defender, midfielder, and attacker. I am a midfielder. The holding midfielder has one of the most important jobs. They keep the team together and running smoothly and I am one of those players. While I play I have to at all times keep in mind where and what the other players are doing. This leads into having to know and communicate with the others on the field. While throwing the ball in from going out of bounds I would either have to signal, motion, and let the other members of the team know where I would be throwing it, or be the one deciphering the code and finding an open spot for them to play the ball again. I would have to say that friend and I from a past team did that perfectly and efficiently. Another example of working with others in the pitch is when we have practice. Just the other day my coach called me out for helping another play understand a technique. The main thing to remember though when you are on a team is to talk to your colleagues and work together to get the best game out if it all. This goes for any team, you play your best and you’ll have a great game.

Technology is used on a regular basis at ACLC. This year in one of my classes the homework is purely online, another having the whole class go on google docs and word on a daily basis. After going to this school for more than four years you get the gist that you need to know how to use the basic programs to pass most of your classes. Now, being a senior, i’ve done about half a dozen prezis, many powerpoints and written way more essays than I could count. I would have to say doing all of this makes you pretty darn good at hashing them out pretty quickly. Prezis though are a bit more difficult to do on the fly, but thats because the controls are a pain sometimes. Being sufficient at these certain things, even in spreadsheet, are what really helps you when going through an education and I think I learned them all fairly well within all of these years. In the beginning I didn’t know a thing about some of these things, and on many occasions I would hack through the program trying to find what I was looking for but occasionally I got stuck. I would have to thank a couple of my peers and some of the older learners for helping me out, but now I am the one helping others.

Helping others is the job teachers sign up for, and I am grateful to all of them who helped me on my way to college. At ACLC you get to know the ones who are instilling morals and manners into your school life. They help you be a certain, scholarly, type of you. Going to this school even shows yourself the social part of your being. Sitting on the couch, or working in class, I thank this school for helping me on my way out of finding myself.
